Utah State law requires that every officer in the state receive forty hours of law enforcement training each year to maintain their law enforcement certification.
Officers are instructed in community relations, cultural awareness, emergency vehicle operations, firearms qualification, legal updates, arrest control, and self defense. The Training Unit is staffed by a Training Sergeant and Training Officers who coordinate and teach many of the training classes that are held.
Field Training Officer Program The training unit oversees a 22 week Field Training Officer Program for newly hired officers. This task based proficiency program teaches new officers the skills necessary to operate on their own as solo officers.
