The following are rules governing the Bulky Waste Collection Program. If you have any questions regarding any of these rules, please contact Waste Management of Utah directly at 888-496-8824.
All bulky waste should be put neatly on the curbside no more than one day prior to the scheduled pickup for your area. Place the bulky waste items at least five (5) feet away from your regular waste container, or any other obstacle, before 7 a.m. on the scheduled day.
Size and Weight Limits: All bulky waste must be bagged, boxed, or bundled. Boxes must be 30 gallons or smaller. Do not set boxes out in wet weather as the bottoms may fall out. Bundles must be no longer than five (5) feet long. Bags, boxes, and bundles must not weigh more than 75 lbs. Improperly prepared bulky waste will not be picked up.
Yard Trimmings and Limbs: Limbs must be no larger than four (4) inches in diameter and no longer than five (5) feet long. They must be bundled in bundles no bigger than 18 inches in diameter and weigh no more than 75 lbs. Normal yard waste and grass clippings should be placed in your regular container. Other yard waste too bulky to fit in your regular container must be bagged, boxed, or bundled. Unbound piles will not be collected. Grass clippings will not be picked up as bulky waste.
Appliances on and furniture: Old appliances, carpet, and furniture (including couches and mattresses) can be put out for bulky waste collection. Appliances with FREON will not be collected unless it has a proper tag from a private company stating that the FREON has been removed. Appliances containing FREON can be taken to Salt Lake County Landfill at 6030 West 1300 south and disposed of for a fee. Their phone number is 801-974-6920, if you have any questions.
Rubbish (wood, plastics, metal, leather): Large or bulky items in this category from your cleanup projects can be placed out for bulky waste if it won't fit in your regular container. If you consistently have more than you can fit in your container, you should request a second container.
Construction and demolition waste: Most construction waste will not be collected. Occasional construction or demolition waste from small projects will be collected if it is properly prepared. An abundance of construction or demolition waste will not be picked up.
Household garbage: Everyday household waste you generate, like food waste and packaging must be disposed of weekly in your regular container. If you need a second container to accommodate weekly waste material, you may obtain one for a fee of $6.45 per month. Second containers must be kept for at least six (6) months. For a second container, please contact the Sanitation Division at 801-955-3720. Excess garbage outside your can will not be collected.
