City Election Information

Municipal Elections


The next General Election will be held on November 7, 2017. The following seats are up for election:
  • Mayor (4 year term)
  • Council Member At Large (4 year term)
  • Council Member District 2 (4 year term)
  • Council Member District 4 (4 year term)

Filing for Candidacy


The filing period for this election is June 1, 2017, to June 7, 2017, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Those wishing to run for office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy form to the City Recorder in person with a $25 filing fee during the filing period.

Qualifications for Candidacy


  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a resident of West Valley City for at least 365 consecutive days immediately preceding the date of the election (November 7, 2017)
  • Be a registered voter
  • If elected from a council district, candidate must be a resident of the council district
  • In accordance with Utah Constitution Article IV, Section 6, any mentally incompetent person, any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may not hold office in this state until the right to hold elective office is restored under Section 20A-2-101.5.
