Utah State law requires that every officer in the state receive forty hours of law enforcement training each year to maintain their law enforcement certification.
Officers are instructed in:
- Arrest Control
- Community Relations
- Cultural Awareness
- Emergency Vehicle Operations
- Firearms Qualification
- Legal Updates
- Self Defense
- De-escalation
- Mental Health / Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
The Training Unit is staffed by a Training Sergeant and Training Officers who coordinate and teach many of the training classes that are held.
Field Training Officer Program
The Training Unit oversees a 22 week Field Training Officer Program for newly hired officers. This task based proficiency program teaches new officers the skills necessary to operate on their own as solo officers.
