Training Unit

Utah State law requires that every officer in the state receive forty hours of law enforcement training each year to maintain their law enforcement certification.

Officers are instructed in:

  • Arrest Control
  • Community Relations
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
  • Firearms Qualification
  • Legal Updates
  • Self Defense
  • De-escalation
  • Mental Health / Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

The Training Unit is staffed by a Training Sergeant and Training Officers who coordinate and teach many of the training classes that are held.

Field Training Officer Program

The Training Unit oversees a 22 week Field Training Officer Program for newly hired officers. This task based proficiency program teaches new officers the skills necessary to operate on their own as solo officers.
