Some of the true heroes in our community are the Crossing Guards that protect our children while going to and from school every day. These fine folks work rain or shine to assist the little ones safely to their destinations.
There are 83 school Crossing Guards employed by the West Valley Police Department that assist the children in attending the 28 schools in the city. Our Crossing Guards are a diverse and talented multi-generational team who share one common trait - they love to help protect our children.
A Crossing Guard is required to complete a full day of in-house training, be CPR and First Aid certified, and successfully pass a police background check, drug screen, and physical. They also work with an experienced Crossing Guard for a week of "on the job" training before receiving their own assignment.
Next time you see a Crossing Guard - slow down, be respectful, and tell them thanks!
