Waste Containers Guidelines

West Valley City provides one 95-gallon garbage container and one 95-gallon recycling container to every single family home and all duplexes. It is the resident's responsibility to take proper care of the can. If cans are damaged through neglect, misuse or vandalism, you will be charged a fee of $75 to have the can replaced.

Guidelines

To keep containers in good repair please follow these guidelines:

  • Do not paint, write on or deface the can in any way.
  • Do not put hot coals in the containers. You will be charged for burnt containers.
  • Do not put asphalt, concrete, dirt, rocks, manure or other similar materials not normally associated with day-to-day residential household activities in the garbage container.
  • Do not overfill the container. Damage to lids can occur if materials prevent the lid from closing.
  • Do not leave the container out on the street. Please place the containers back in a safe place on your property as soon as possible after the can is emptied.
  • Do not place lawn clippings in the container that have not been bagged. Containers can be damaged through normal use. If the container issued to you is broken or just needs a lid or wheel replaced, please contact our office at 801-955-3720.

Additional Cans

Additional garbage and recycling containers are available to residents at an additional cost. The fee will be added to the fee for the first cans on your monthly West Valley City Stormwater and Sanitation bill. Additional cans must be kept for a minimum of six months. View the current fees for additional cans on our fees page.

Additional cans can only be requested by the property owner. Should you require more than one can, additional cans can be obtained by contacting our office at 801-955-3720.
