FAQs
- I recently moved into West Valley City. What do I need to do?
-
Call the West Valley City Sanitation Division at 801-963-3334. We will gladly answer all of your questions!
- What is the holiday garbage and recycling pick-up schedule?
-
There are only four (4) holidays that garbage and recycling are not collected: Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. If your garbage day falls on one of these holidays or after the holiday during the same week, your garbage will be picked up a day later. Click here to see the garbage and recycling collection schedule. If in doubt, put it out!

- When should I have my container on the street?
-
Your garbage container must be out on the curb by 7:00 AM on your scheduled collection day (you may place your container on the street the night prior to your collection day). West Valley City Ordinance requires that your container must be off the street within 24 hours of collection.
- My regular pickup was missed, what do I do?
-
Contact ACE Recycling & Disposal at 801-363-9995. Garbage containers that are not in compliance with rules will not be emptied until in compliance. Learn more about what you can put in your garbage container here.
- Do I have to participate in West Valley City's garbage program?
-
Yes. City ordinance requires all single-family homes and duplexes to participate in the City's garbage program.
- How many times will my container be emptied each week?
-
Once. Do not refill your can and move it across the street for a second dump. Additional cans are available -- learn more here.
- What about grass clippings?
-
Grass clippings may be put in your garbage can. It is highly recommended that you bag your grass clippings. Clippings that are not bagged will come out easily and will cause your garbage can to stink tremendously. Cans are not replaced free of charge just because they smell bad.
