Neighborhood Out & About is a Healthy West Valley Coalition-sponsored program to encourage residents to get out and get moving in their neighborhoods -- traditionally known as walkabouts.

Residents are encouraged to walk, bike, roll, or skate in their community during designated dates and times to get exercise and connect with their neighbors. If a neighbor chooses, they can also hang out on their porch and wave to those passing by.

How to Participate

Neighborhood groups are encouraged to work with the Neighborhood Services Division to organize a Neighborhood Out & About program in their area. The City will help neighborhoods by providing yard signs, flyers, and/or posters to share and inform neighbors of the program.

Some groups may choose to have a special meeting place to start their exercise together; some may choose to have a house designated to stop by for treats or water; and some may choose to host a themed event such as "Pajama Morning Walk," "Glowsticks in the Dark Evening," or "Walk the Dog Afternoon."

Neighborhood groups are welcome to organize Neighborhood Out & About any day of the year, but are highly encouraged to participate when the weather is good (early spring-early fall). Groups can organize a one night event or a weekly, monthly or quarterly event.
