Rules and Regulations

• If you have a problem with your service, please call ACE Recycling and Disposal at 801-363-9995.
• Garbage is collected once a week and must be on the curb in front of your home by 7 AM.
• Containers are only emptied once a week. Please do not refill your container and put it across the street, etc.
• Garbage Service Containers must be placed at least five feet from vehicles, light poles, fences, mailboxes, etc. If you have more than one container, they must be placed at least two feet apart for the automated arms to have room to pick them up.
• It is important that the lid be closed. If you have excess garbage that overflows your container, the lid should only be raised six inches. By having the lid closed or only up a little we substantially reduce litter on our streets and in the yards of nearby homes.
  • If garbage sticks out of the top of the can and the Sanitation Truck Operator doesn’t feel they can lift the can without losing some of the garbage or that they can’t easily empty the can into the truck, the can will not be emptied.
• Containers are not to be left on the street. They can be put out the night before your scheduled collection day but must be removed from the street after they have been emptied on the same day.
• Burned or melted containers: Do not place hot coals from fireplaces or briquettes from barbecues in your container. They will burn or melt the container. Containers that have been burned will be replaced, and a container replacement fee will be added to your bill.

Additional Containers

• Additional garbage and recycling containers may be ordered through the West Valley City Sanitation Division. Additional cans may only be ordered by the property owner and must be kept for a minimum of six (6) months. You can view the fees for additional containers here.
• The first regular garbage and recycle cans may be marked with your house number (first four digits in your address) in order to help you identify your can. Do not mark any second cans, green or blue, as they may be returned to West Valley City.

Damaged Containers

If your container is broken or damaged, you may contact our office to have the container replaced.

There is no charge to replace containers that are broken or damaged through normal use. If containers have been damaged or abused by the resident, there will be a container replacement fee.

What can I put in my garbage can?

• Your garbage can is for household waste.  However, there are restrictions.
  • Items that may not be placed in your garbage can:
  • Batteries (especially during the summertime -- they cause fires).
  • Asphalt, concrete, dirt, manure, or other similar materials. 
  • Hot coals or fireworks (they will melt your can resulting in a container replacement charge).
• When cans are over filled by weight the garbage truck can not handle them effectively. Heavy cans might slip from the garbage truck’s grabbers and drop into the garbage truck; or, if the grabber’s tension is too high the cans might get crushed.
• If garbage sticks out of the top of the can and the Sanitation Truck Operator doesn’t feel they can lift the can without losing some of the garbage or that they can’t easily empty the can into the truck, the can will not be emptied.
• Grass clippings may be put in your garbage can. It is highly recommended that you bag your grass clippings. Grass clippings in your garbage can that are not bagged will not come out easily and will cause your garbage can to stink tremendously. Cans are not replaced free of charge just because they smell bad.
